Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. (1 Chronicles 16:23-25, NIV)
We all go through seasons in life when it seems if something can go wrong, it will. We live in a fallen world and sometimes our circumstances seem unrelenting in reminding us of that truth. In those moments, the best thing we can do is shift our focus from this world and our circumstances to our heavenly Father and His immeasurable love, power, strength and provision. We start to feel anxious, worried, overwhelmed, and consumed when we focus on our problems. When those feelings creep in, we must shift our focus back to the truth.
The truth is, we can choose to sing to the Lord in all circumstances. We can choose to honor the Lord with our choices and our attitude even when our circumstances are not ideal. When we lift our eyes from this world and it's temporary troubles and focus instead on the amazing gift of salvation through Christ and God's great glory, our heart start to lighten and even rejoice in the midst of difficult circumstances. When it seems like nothing is going our way, we can choose to remember all of the marvelous things God has done in our lives. We regain hope in our current circumstances as we start to remember and focus on God's past faithfulness and provision.
God's character is unchanging. He is faithful and will provide yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever regardless of what we are facing. We need to regularly take time to tell the Lord how great He is and all of the reasons He is worthy of our praise.
This mental shift does not make our problems go away, but it does make them seem a lot less overwhelming in light His greatness. It also reminds us that our problems and this world are TEMPORARY. Peace replaces our worry and anxiety as we thank and praise the Lord in the midst of hard times. He is always worthy of praise!
