Searching for Understanding

Proverbs 2:3-5 (NIV®)

If you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Sometimes, particularly in the Christian Church, we have this notion that if we don’t know something, somehow we will be delivered from its consequences. It’s true in other parts of our lives too. People had been smoking tobacco for centuries before a report came out in 1964 saying it was harmful. Smokers had always suffered the health consequences of it, whether they knew the cause or not. Their ignorance did not prevent their disease. The same is true of spiritual ignorance. We are unwise as believers if we choose to remain unaware of the things of God. This passage tells us to search for understanding as if it were hidden treasure of gold or silver, so that we will find the knowledge of God. Invest yourself in securing it. It will make a difference in your life, in your family, in your future.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promises. Your Word says in James 1:5 that if I ask for wisdom You are generous to give it––and I need Your wisdom and insight. I thank You in advance for what You will do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
