Did you know that it's not only biblical––it’s possible––to live a carefree life? How would you like to experience a life free from worry and anxiety, a life of absolute peace and joy in every situation you face? It is possible, but only by faith. You have to believe these two verses in Philippians and put them into practice, and that's where faith comes in.
The Amplified Bible translates that Philippians 4:6 this way: "Do not fret or have anxiety about anything….”
God wouldn't tell us not to worry or fret unless it was possible. First He tells us it's possible, and then He gives us the four things necessary to live this carefree life: prayer, supplication, thanksgiving and requests.
Let’s dig a little deeper...
Prayer. The first thing we have to do is pray about everything. The reason He wants us to pray about everything is that it helps us to always be God-focused. Isn't it easy to try to figure everything out on our own, and leave God out of it? That's really not the best way to live. God wants us to come to Him for general advice, and His advice is always good.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Supplication. This is something that you're going to need some help with. Maybe you're facing something today that you've never faced before. Maybe you're facing something that is very unique to you. So, instead of taking on the burden or the concern yourself, share it with the Lord. Share it in prayer, but also remember that you are not supposed to try to live life alone. Jesus is there to help you carry anything that comes your way.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
Thanksgiving. When something big begins to worry you, you have to remember to thank God for all the times He’s been faithful to you. Thank Him by faith, knowing He will be faithful to you once again. How many times has God shown Himself faithful to you? How many times at the final hour, on the final day has God shown up and everything ended up just fine? No matter what you're facing today, I can tell you with 100% complete assurance, God is faithful!
"God is faithful, by Whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." (1 Corinthians 1:9)
Requests. When you're facing something that is causing you to worry, it's important that you bring those specific requests to God. You can't just come to Him and say, "I have this worry, so take it away." You need to come to God with the concern along with a promise from God's Word that deals with that actual concern. For instance, if you're facing a huge need in your life, don't just bring the need to God, but bring the promise that answers that need like this one:
"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)
So let's trust God today, live the carefree life, and watch the peace of God guard our minds and hearts!
Say It: “Father, I thank You that according to 1 Peter 5:7, I can cast all my cares upon You for You care for me. So today I do just that; I cast all my cares upon You, and I thank You that I don't have to carry that burden any more. I'm free to live the carefree life in You! In Jesus' Name. Amen."
