If someone asked your family, friends, and coworkers to describe you in a few words, which words do you think they would choose?

Acts 10:1-2 (NIV®)       

At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

 

Acts 10 describes a pivotal moment in the Jesus-story, and one of the important participants is a Roman soldier named Cornelius. Cornelius was not a Jew—he had not studied the Torah or kept the law as most of Jesus’ early followers had. Yet this passage tells us he was devout, God-fearing, generous to those in need, and a man of prayer. If someone asked your family, friends, and coworkers to describe you in a few words, which words do you think they would choose? What are the characteristics you encourage in your children and grandchildren? We should always try to align ourselves with Scripture, and sometimes that means adjusting our goals and aspirations.

 

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I am grateful that You have extended Your Kingdom invitation to all who will call on Your name and trust You for salvation. Thank You that You are not interested in my heritage, my IQ, or my income. My greatest desire is to be known as a person who places You above all else. Help me to make that the reality of my life today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
