Every Part

Read: Genesis 1:45-50

The human body is complex. So many parts that work individually and in tandem! So many life processes that coexist seamlessly and work together rhythmically. God created every part of our body for a specific purpose. Our hands pick up objects, write letters and steer the car. Our feet take us down the street, up the stairs. Our heart ensures that blood gets to every inch of our bodies, and our brains supervise and regulate our bodies’ activities.

Do you think that one part is less valuable than another? That you can honestly compare a wrist with a knee or a lung with a liver? What would the heart be without vessels to carry its live-giving force? And what would our brain be without blood to power it? Every part must work together in harmony so the body as a whole will thrive.

So it is with the church. With Christ living in your heart, you are a part of His body of believers. Your part is vital, even if it’s not as visible as others. Every one of us has different talents and abilities. Some of us are gifted in certain areas, and all of us have shortfalls in others. Yet we all come together and work toward one purpose, which is life.

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ,”  (I Corinthians 12:4-6, 12).
