Wisdom Hunters Daily Devotional

Perhaps you know some people who are very sure of themselves—self-confident, brash, even arrogant. If you haven’t noticed how great they are, they will help you figure it out. But there are probably just as many people with the opposite mind-set, broken in heart and spirit, constantly critical of themselves, feeling like failures pretty much every day. Know anybody like that? Is that you?
These people may seem to be just fine—they dress okay, still go to work and go through the motions, but their spirits are dead. They may trust you with a peek inside their bleak souls, hoping that you have something positive to say.
Maybe what they hope to hear are words like this from Jesus, the crucified and risen One: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28,29). You can’t really forgive yourself until you know that you are forgiven by Christ. If you’re having trouble liking yourself, you will be refreshed by contact with the One who has defined unconditional love.
Jesus’ message: “You’re precious to me. I want you to live in my heavenly home forever. I would like you to make me the center of your life right now.”
