"She creates beautiful and useful things in order to bless her players" (Proverbs 31:19).
If I've learned anything about females from raising three daughters, it's that all girls love pretty things. Regardless of their unique talents, social status or personal style, all girls enjoys expressing their femininity through their surroundings.
Some coaches and programs focus so much on cloning robotic athletes that they disregard the personal flare of the individual. Locker rooms become synonymous with the drab surroundings of barracks or prison cells, and uniforms show little or no creative pizzazz. Heaven forbid we have some fun and add color to our pallet.
My eighth-grade team this year is wearing neon pink shorts and black T-shirts adorned with neon pink and orange lettering. Our logo reads, "For His Glory". We are feminine and athletic, a force to be reckoned with on the volleyball court.
In addition to our personalized uniforms, I also let the older girls design and decorate their locker room space with paint color and accessories... within reason. Let's just say HGTV has some competition.
1 Peter 3: 3-4 (NASB) says, "Your adornment must not be merely external... but let it be the hidden person of the heart... which is precious in the sight of God."
It's been a tremendous spirit booster and the girls love using their creative skills. How about it, coach? What can you do to add a unique, feminine flare to your program? Let's let our hair down a little, and bless our players in the process.
Prayer
Lord, allow me to use my feminine creativity to train my young athletes in godliness so that they can be beautiful both inside and out!
