Transportation Troubles

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV)

My husband and I planned a cruise months in advance but neglected to look into transportation from the airport to the port. A few weeks before we were scheduled to leave, we began to deal with this issue and realized it was over an hour drive. Can you say, ‘Uh oh?’

We quickly realized that we had not budgeted for the high fees that were being posted and – making it worse – reviews of the various methods were disheartening and alarming. It was literally highway robbery.

The next day my husband called me and said he had contacted a church in the city we were flying into and offered the taxi fare to any couple who would like to act as chauffeur. A few days later, we connected with a lovely couple who ferried us to our destination, leaving with the average taxi fee in their pocket.

Upon my return to work the next week, I relayed the amazing provision with my coworkers! It was truly a testimony of not only God’s intervention, but also the fabulous fellowship we believers share. Praise God!

A few days later, a friend approached me and said that her and her hubby were also headed for a cruise, but that the person who was scheduled to drive them to the airport had to cancel. It wasn’t the local airport. They were flying out of an international airport over an hour away at 5AM.

My knee-jerk reaction was to balk at the thought. Thankfully, the Lord tickled my funny bone and I laughed at how He calls us to put into action the same love and effort that others have done. Of course we would drive them. (Disclaimer here – I had to work at 7:30 so it was my dear man that wore the taxi cap).

We need more than ever to be available to help out others. Whether it be a hot meal, a check or a ride, God wants us to step out of our comfort zone and put our love into action.

Father, we thank You that You’ve provided us with the biggest family ever! Help us to have hearts and hands that reflect You as we travel this earth, assisting each other on their journey. In Jesus name, Amen!
