"She works for and promotes the welfare of other programs and athletic teams" (Proverbs 31:24)
The strangest thing happened last week when we visited our arch nemesis to play junior high volleyball. I engaged the opposing coaches in an actual conversation.
Usually I'm met with icy, curt answers and suspicion when I try to talk to them. As the warm ups proceeded and we prepared to play the game, I realized that the coach was in a bind and needed help manning the official scorebook and game clock.
My volunteer assistant and one of our parents graciously sat and worked the scorebook and ran the clock. This was an opportunity to bless this coach, her team and her program. We could've refused to help, or done so only reluctantly, but we enthusiastically met the need. There were no strings attached, and I don't expect anything in return, but I'm so thrilled with our grace-filled response.
Proverbs 21:21(NASB) says, "He who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness and honor."
It's one thing to be loyal to our own team, but to work for the good of all, is quite unusual in this business. Coach, there are countless opportunities throughout the course of a season to promote the well-being of other teams. Let's jump on those divine appointments and show the sports world what a godly coach looks like.

Lord help me pursue You, and teach me the way of loyalty, so that I can bless all those in my sports community.
