Your Misery is Your Ministry
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
“Your misery is your ministry.” This simple yet profound statement stands at the core of us discovering what God has called us to do. Oftentimes, the things we hate the most are the things we have been called to change. For Ellen Degeneres, she discovered the power of laughter and comedy when her mother was faced with breast cancer and divorce. The challenges her mother faced opened the window to one her deepest callings, comedy. For Ellen, comedy was her avenue to build others up.
Each of us has a ministry that God has called us to. This could be this be singing, writing, dancing, or any other avenue to communicate encouragement in others. There is something inside of all of us that is unique and special and that can be used to bring God glory and build others up. Have you discovered that in your life?
Ask God to reveal His purpose for your life and show you the things that He has called you to do, as well as the people He has called you to serve.
Begin looking at the places in your life that have created the most ‘misery,’ and commit to changing your perspective from one of pain to that of purpose in order to use your gifts in that area.
