You're Fun to Be With
The Lord takes pleasure in His people. Psalm 149:4, NASB
"Taking pleasure in someone" speaks of enjoying his or her presence. In today's verse, the psalmist references the wonder that the Creator takes pleasure in the created. The Lord longs to enjoy my presence. This truth fills me (Teresa) with gratitude and draws me to Him.
Abraham was referred to as a friend of God, and it raises the possibility that others can become His friends as well. Possibly me? It's this same possibility of friendship that God has built into His establishment of marriage. David has meant a lot of different things to me, and high on the list would have to be that he's my best friend. We laugh at the same things and cry at the same things. We enjoy trying new restaurants, watching movies, and playing on the floor with the grandkids. We both enjoy talking to one another about interesting books we've read. We especially enjoy vacations together. Whether it's with the whole family or just David and me going, we love to explore new places and see the sights. I also really enjoy the seminars that we give together. We enjoy discussing afterward how we saw God work, who was there, and any suggestions for follow-up.
I take pleasure in being with David. As I've reflected on how much I enjoy being with him, it's helped me understand how God might in much the same way enjoy being with me. Having such a fond affection for David and cherishing his friendship has helped me believe that God might have that same affection for me. I've realized that He, too, cherishes His relationship with me.
He takes pleasure in me, just like I take pleasure in my husband.
