You Are Salt

Description

When other people look at us Christians, they should see love, kindness, joy, and peace — things that preserve life and give it a good taste, so that people can taste and see that the Lord is good.

“You are the salt of the earth.” (Matthew 5:13)

Salt has two major purposes: to season and to preserve.

Seasonings make things taste better and they become more palatable. When other people look at us, as Christians, they should see love, kindness, joy, and peace — pleasant things that make life more palatable.

Preservatives keep things from spoiling. When I was a boy, we raised hogs, and after butchering them we would smoke them and then cure them in salt. Since we didn’t have much refrigeration then, the salt would preserve the meat.

We must preserve the truth by telling others about the Lord and by providing a light for those who are looking for the truth.

When things in our society start to “go bad,” we must preserve life by making the Gospel message known. It will preserve life for all eternity.

I challenge you to be salt in your home, your church, and your community.
