You Are Protected from Within by the Power of God
Scabs are gross. And cool. What’s cool about a scab? God made your body’s red blood cells to act like an army. If there’s a breach – a paper cut, a skinned knee or knuckle, etc. – this army rushes to the scene and builds a barricade, better known as a scab. This is why paper cuts usually don’t kill us from unstoppable blood loss.
Weird devotional today, eh? But here’s the thing. If you’re a believer in Jesus, there is another army inside you and His name is the Holy Spirit. When a spiritual threat finds a way into your life, He rushes to the scene. Peter wrote his first general letter to “you… who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:5 NIV) And the word translated as “shielded” refers to a military garrison lining the inside of the walls of an ancient city. If an attacking army breached the wall at any point, the garrison would collectively rush to that point and fend off the attackers.
That’s what God wants to do for you daily, and in terms of your salvation, that’s what He does eternally – right up until the very end. You are kept, protected, shielded by the power of God in your life. To put it bluntly, you couldn’t do anything to save yourself, you had to allow God to save you. And you can’t do anything to keep yourself saved. In either case, it’s all God.
And here’s the coolest part. While God does this all on his own without our “help,” he does invite us to experience this protection daily through faith. Every time you trust Him, you experience His protective power. So have faith. He’s got you!
