Worship Was Attitude and Acts

Description

David Eckman describes the two types of words for worship. One emphasizes the attitude of the heart towards God, and the other emphasizes what we do for God as priests.

In both the Old Testament and the New Testament there are two types of words for worship. One emphasizes the attitude of the heart towards God, and the other emphasizes what we do for God as priests. The first word for worship means to reverently bow in dependency and focused delight on God. This is the term that appears in John 4. God is seeking for people to worship him that way.

23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father is continually seeking to be His worshipers.

24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

 (John 4:23-24)

Why is He seeking for such people? It is the same reason that you seek for friends. You seek for friends because you want to be in a relationship with people who appreciate and understand you. With human beings that is called friendship; with God that is called worship. We are made in the image of God so we desire relationships, friendships with understanding and joy. So is it any surprise that God is seeking the same? It should not be. God wants appreciative friends too!
