Works in Progress

God isn't through with us yet, but the Bible promises that He who began a good work in us will complete it in Christ Jesus.

Ezekiel 36:25-26 (NIV®)

“I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

God spoke these words to the people of Israel through His prophet Ezekiel, but they apply to us as well. God is reminding us that His Church is not a collection of perfect people and that we are still in process. If we don’t acknowledge that, then church becomes a pretty façade, and we are just pretending. The good news of God’s Word is that His power is available to help you and me change. Repentance is so significant because it enables us to present ourselves to God so that we can be transformed. We don’t have to hide who we are or what we’ve been. He is simply waiting for us to ask Him for a new heart and a new spirit.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of cleansing and a new heart and a new spirit. I acknowledge my many weaknesses and ask that You would cleanse and renew me again today. I thank You for the power of Your Word within me. Help me to live today so that people would see the new heart that comes from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
