Isaiah 7:14 (NIV®)
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
People often say to me, “You mean you believe in the virgin birth thing?” “Uh-huh.” “How do you suppose that happened?” “I don’t know.” We are twenty centuries on the other side of this event, and we still struggle to process and explain the virgin birth. It’s not a part of my life experience, so I don’t have to answer for it in a personal way. But the truth is that if you follow God long enough there will be parts of His path for your life that will require you to trust Him beyond your rational ability to explain. That can be hard for me because I’m a rational person. I like a logical explanation for most of the things going on in my life. While following God will not require you to check your intellect at the door, it will require you to have complete confidence in His plan, even when you don’t understand it. When we learn to follow Him without hesitation or reservation, we will be blessed.
Heavenly Father, I realize that I will never understand all there is to know about You and Your ways and Your plans. Thank You for the wealth of knowledge and insight You give to us through Your Word and the example of You Son and the leading of Your Holy Spirit. Give me a willing spirit so that I might follow You wherever Your path leads me. Give me boldness to move forward when I sense Your direction. In the name of Jesus, Immanuel, amen.
