With Whom Will You Choose to Stand?
“Once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens. Indicating the removal of things that are shaken – that is, things that have been made – in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and therefore let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29
Wow! There is a lot in those verses. God has most definitely “cleaned house” before now. He is not unfamiliar with a creation turning away from Him, consumed in their sin. It began before the earth was formed, with the revolt of Satan and his angelic hosts. It happened again in the times of Noah, when God chose to rescue a few from the flood waters that washed the earth clean. It will happen once more, at the end of this age; the judgment will be delivered through fire. The only beings that will survive the wrath of God will be those whom He has redeemed.
None of us deserve salvation. All of us deserve certain death as the penalty due our sins. But, thank goodness - in God’s mercy – He has chosen to rescue some of us from the coming destruction! The kingdom we were created for is one that will never pass away. Our citizenship is in heaven, and as such – we should offer our lives as living sacrifices. We should offer praise to our God and King, and worship should continually be on our lips.
We owe God a few things, whether we realize it or not. First, we were created to bring God praise. All of our lives are meant to point back to Him and lay all glory and recognition at His beautiful feet. Second, we should work out our salvation with fear and trembling. We may have tasted salvation, but we still need to obey. Third, we should absolutely revere a God who holds our lives in the palm of His hand. And, finally – do you stand in awe of a creator that is maintaining order in such a vast universe? If you don’t – you certainly should. He is the God who works in us to will and to act according to His good purpose in ALL of our lives. I can barely manage the details of my own little existence; I cannot fathom His wisdom in such matters.
Prayer: Father, You know the end of the story… and have predetermined so many intricate and necessary details. May we not fret about the chaos in our world. May we choose to relinquish any control we thought we had over our lives, and give the reigns to YOU. May we choose to focus on the things you require of us: thankfulness for Your mercy and worshiping You in all that we do, while holding you in proper reverence and awe. For You have created a kingdom that cannot be shaken. And, with You, we choose to stand.
