With Me Always
Description
I am with you always. Matthew 28:20
I (Teresa) was going to be giving a new message to a women's conference in the Houston area, and I was nervous about it. Giving new messages does that to me.
Since I couldn't fly to the retreat grounds, David had volunteered to drive me to the conference. We were almost an hour down the road when I went to pull out my new messages to review for the weekend and realized I'd left them on the desk back home. David was so supportive. He offered to take me on to the retreat, then return to Austin and get my notes.
I've never felt so much support from anyone as I felt from David that day. It felt so good to know that he would go out of his way for me. His support was an example to me of how I could be a support to him in the future.
Over the centuries, today's Scripture passage has provided reassurance and support to countless numbers of God's people. Christ makes no promise of shelter from pain or strife or from the aftermath of sin, but He promises that, "I am with you always:' It's the assurance that I'm not alone, that Jesus is with me, that brings me hope and courage and empowers me. Such are the blessings of the support my Lord has promised me.
I am with you always. It's this testimony of security that is portrayed on a human level in our marriage commitments. As we promise to be with our spouses, "for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; until death do us part:' we are saying that as long as we have breath, we will be with this person always. That is what security in the marriage relationship is all about.
In what specific ways will you show your spouse Christlike love and support today?
Father, thank You for giving us Your Spirit to support us.
