Winter in a Tent

In West Bekaa, Lebanon, close to the Syrian border, a refugee family warms themselves by a fire in a ditch in front of their tents, burning garbage -- mostly plastic -- to stay warm.

A cold February wind blows from the snow-covered mountains nearby. As the late afternoon light fades and the temperature drops, the family and neighbors gather in a roadside ditch in front of their shelters to warm themselves by a bonfire. Black, oily and foul-smelling smoke billows from the flames. The fire is fueled with trash they’ve gathered, most of it plastic.

In the past few months, Syrian refugees’ lives have gotten much harder as winter cold, snow, and icy slush blanketed their shelters and settlements in the Middle East.

Pray: Pray that God will protect the refugees and that they will have the blankets, stoves, fuel, warm clothing, and shoes they need.
