Why Should I Volunteer in My Church?
Description
When you want to learn about a new opportunity first-hand, what do you do? You just DO IT. Whether you are perfect or "ready" doesn't matter—you give it a shot, you intern, you do what you can to “get your foot in the door.” God, in His love for us, gives us the same opportunity to join what He is doing. He could easily do anything without our help at all, but He desires to work through us.
We see this in action with Jesus and the disciples as they feed over 5,000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish.
As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.’ Jesus replied, ‘They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.’ ‘We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,’ they answered. ‘Bring them here to me,’ he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. (Matthew 14:16-19)
Experience First-Hand what God is Doing
Look at Jesus’ response: “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” He could have just done it Himself, just made food appear from nowhere, but He wanted them to be a part of the miracle. He wanted them to understand that His plan was to enable them to do more than they were capable of doing on their own. In the same way, He wants us to experience first-hand what God is doing so that we can better understand who He is and how much He loves his us…His people.
Everybody has something to offer even if it seems small compared to the need. What do you have to offer? How should you join God at work?
