"Then war broke out between Abijah and Jeroboam." 2 Chronicles 13:2b (NLT)
Have you ever felt like war is breaking out all around you? Your job is unsettled with rumors of pink slips being handed out. Peace isn’t found at home because your teenage son and your husband are conflicting over who is the alpha male. Even your friend group is experiencing changes. Wherever you go, battles threaten to erupt into full-blown war.
Confrontation between Abijam (a.k.a. Abijah) and Jeroboam had heightened to code red alert. War seemed evitable. Judah’s army outnumbered Jeroboam‘s (Israel’s camp) two to one. Yes, the deck was stacked against them and I love their reaction.
Jeroboam’s response will equip us with what it takes to be victorious when war breaks out in our life.
- Remind the enemy who he is messing with (vs. 8)
- Reaffirm your commitment to God (vs. 10)
- Remember to do all the Lord requires of you (vs. 10-11)
- Recollect that God is with you and leads you (vs. 12)
- Remind the enemy he will not succeed (vs. 12)
- Re-sound your cry to the Lord for help (vs. 14)
When the people of Judah, though they were living in sin and disobedience, fought with truth, God defeated their enemy. He did it for them and He will do it for you and me. That is our God!
