It’s His Word that tells me what pleases Him. I don’t have to be left wondering, doubting or fearing that I’m not pleasing to Him.
So we make it our goal to please him… . Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me… . One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal—2 CORINTHIANS 5:9, PHILIPPIANS 3:12 – 14.
Have you ever wondered if Jesus was tempted to doubt whether He had pleased God with His life and ministry? Could Satan have tempted Him to have the fleeting thought that the cross was evidence God was not pleased?
We know Jesus had no doubt that His Father was pleased, because God leaned out of heaven and said, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22).
Recently someone remarked, “Anne, I know God is pleased with you.” But I was left to wonder how that person knew. Was it just a feeling?
How can anyone know when God is pleased? Do we assume He is pleased when we enjoy good health? When our job is going well? When our investments yield a significant return? When people speak well of us? When our prayers are answered? When we’re happy?
On what do we base the evidence of His favor and goodwill?
But then I knew. It’s His Word that tells me what pleases Him. I don’t have to be left wondering, doubting, or fearing that I’m not pleasing to Him. I just need to open my Bible, read, apply and obey it. He will be pleased.
