What's Your Story?

Without a personal relationship with the Creator of this universe, we are walking through life veiled to the possibilities of all that God has in store for us.

“Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me.” -- Psalm 66:16 (NLT)

We all have a story, and I thought today would be a good time to share mine.  In 1983, at the age of nineteen, I made the single most important decision of my life.  I surrendered my life to Christ.  At that time, I was selling insurance door to door. One day, between stops, my sales partner asked me the all-familiar question, “If you died today, do you know that you would go to heaven?”  I couldn’t answer this question with certainty. In fact, I wasn’t sure where I would spend eternity. So, my partner proceeded to ask me if I would like to know for sure. My answer was, of course, yes!

After pulling the car over on the side of the road, I remember admitting that I was a sinner, which wasn’t hard for me to do. I knew something about God from early childhood experiences at church, and I clearly knew that the things I was doing were wrong. So, my partner led me in a prayer in which I confessed my sin, asked for God’s forgiveness, acknowledged my faith in Him, and asked Him to come into my life to be my Lord and Savior! Although I didn’t immediately experience a drastic life change, I did sense a constant presence of God’s Spirit residing in me and I did begin to notice that my “want to’s” were changing.

“True conversion is not a one-time event; it’s an ongoing process of becoming more and more like Christ.”  -- Howard Hendricks

In my early 20s, I drew closer to God through my prayer life, and I developed a sense that I was never alone. Over the next 20 years, I experienced many life-storms that repeatedly drove me into the arms of my Savior as I desperately sought shelter. Looking back on those experiences, I see how God used those storms in my life to bring me closer to Him.

Without a personal relationship with the Creator of this universe, we are walking through life veiled to the possibilities of all that God has in store for us. But, a relationship with Christ brings joy and peace into our lives and an abundance of hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -- Romans 15:13 (NASB)

If you have never asked Christ into your life, or if you have any doubt as to whether you have completely surrendered your life over to God, I invite you to do so today by praying the prayer below.

Dear Lord,

I humbly confess to You that I am a sinner. I have lived my life by following my wants, lusts, and desires. I come before you today to ask you to forgive me of my sins, believing that You died on the cross to pay for them in full. You did for me what I am not able to do for myself. Therefore, today I am receiving You Jesus as Lord and Savior of my life, to take up residence in my soul, and to cover me with Your abundant grace and mercy. I choose today to follow You, to turn my life over to You.  I love you, Jesus, and I thank you that I am now your child.

If you prayed that prayer just now, I want to be the first person to WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OF GOD!!

Thank you for allowing me to share my story with you!
