What’s For Lunch?


In Myanmar, 11-year-old Swe Lei Hnin Thwe eats lunch at school with her friends.

Every school day, her grandmother packs her a nutritious lunch. Today’s lunch is a good example: potato with curry, fried watercress, and chicken with rice. Yum!

“I’ve been trained through workshops and talks from World Vision on how to include the three main ingredients in the meal—for strength, growth, and resistance,” says Swe’s grandmother, who is the only family for Swe since the girl’s mother left three years ago. She provides meat, greens, and starch whenever possible for Swe, a sponsored child.

Lunch break starts before noon at school and Swe says she enjoys having lunch together with her class mates. Being an only child at home, Swe learns the joys of friendship--includin­g sharing the contents of each other's lunch boxes.
