What is Your Vision Story?
Every ministry or project has a “creation story” (the dream that brought you into existence, what was the birthing process like, the obstacles you overcame), a “redemption story” (times you failed, ways that you saw God working to redeem what seemed to be hopeless efforts), and a “vision story” (the view you have of the future, how you see God moving you into tomorrow, and what the impact of a fulfilled vision would look like in your community). Effective leaders share stories in such a way as to share and shape dreams so that individuals become part of THE STORY of God at work in your community.
Your vision story must be compelling... it should literally “pull” you toward the tomorrow that God has for you. Dreams without passion leave you whistling and pondering possibilities. Dreams without vision stay in the land of unfulfilled “wishes”. A vision, undergirded with passion and clarity, literally motivates you, your team, and those outside your organization or ministry to want to join in the effort. Have you ever been around a vision-driven organization? Watching and analyzing a vision driven organization is a multi-sensory experience... you can see, touch, feel, and almost “smell” the passion and focused purpose in the air.
So, what is your vision story? Have you captured the images, the transformations, the subtle and substantial changes that will take place when God’s vision in your heart becomes real in your community? Effective leaders learn to tell stories that excite passion. Vision stories excite passion because they build the compelling case for the future. Your vision story can compel someone today to risk for the hope of tomorrow. Be gripped with God’s vision for the future and start sharing it with others!
