What Is Your Foundation?

Description

The only reliable thing in this life is Jesus. Building our lives on any other foundation is foolishness.

Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, for it had been founded on rock (Matthew 7:24-25, NRSV).
Would you build your dream home in a swamp? On a sand dune? On a glacier? Of course not. The land beneath your house would sink or move or melt. It would be foolish to build a house without a soil survey to make sure there’s not too much clay or sand. You’d want to find out how high the water table is before digging that hole in the ground.

Yet we are willing to build our lives around jobs, wealth, adventure, friends, family or pleasure. Is that any wiser than building a house on sand? What will remain if a flood of sorrow or the winds of trouble blow through your existence? What will be left? If the foundation on which you build your life is transitory, all will be swept away. But if you’ve built your life on the Rock, on Christ Jesus, you will survive.

The only reliable thing in this life is Jesus. Building our lives on any other foundation is foolishness.

FAITH STEP: Think about your life. Where do you stand? What is your foundation? Ask Jesus to help you build your faith on Him, on the Rock that will withstand the winds of time.
