What is “Holy”?

Ed Young explains what the Bible says about being “holy”.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9

What does it mean when the Bible talks about being “holy”? To be holy means to be set apart. God is holy. He is different from us, He is above us, He is good. But the Bible says that God made us in His image, so where does that leave us?

As we see in today’s scripture, we are called out of darkness and “into His wonderful light”. By becoming a Christ-follower we become part of “God’s team,” we receive His holiness. In our lives, we will stand out as light in darkness, as changed people and as different to who we may have been in the past.

Pray that God will implant His holiness into your life and transform you to be the light that shines out to others who need to know Jesus Christ. Pray that God will protect you and guide you as you seek to lead a life which is “set apart” and holy.

Examine your life, the activities you pursue, the places you go and the people you hang with. Are  you seeking those people, places and activities that reflect God’s light? Are you seeking those things that will make you “holy”?
