Have you ever wondered what God thinks about when he thinks about you? During a message at Passion City Church, Jeff Henderson recently asked the congregation this question. After many years of making this inquiry of people, Jeff said the most common response he receives is, “God must think I’m a disappointment.”

But what if God has a completely different answer for this question? Ephesians 2:8-10 reminds us that He does.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

When God thinks about you, he doesn’t see you as a disappointment. He already knows that without Him, you don’t stand a chance. No matter how hard you try, you can’t bridge the gap that sin created between you and God. Because of His love for you, Christ came to redeem you and save you from your sin. God has already shown what He thinks about you by the sacrifice He made to restore relationship with you through Christ. For this reason, you can walk in confidence, knowing you are loved by your Creator.

When God thinks about you, He clearly sees the purpose He created you to fulfill.

For the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to put this message into practice and its impact has been enormous. These verses have caused me to look differently at my daily roles of husband, father and employee. When God thinks about me, He sees the potential inside me. I know that I am dependent on the power of Christ in me, but because of that power, I step forward to do more than I ever thought possible.

According to Ephesians 2, God created me for a specific purpose; His sacrifice has set me free to truly live out my unique calling.
