What Are You Looking At?
What do you see? The Bible is loaded with the faith principle of “seeing.” This is one of those basics we need to daily get a hold of.
Think about how many times God told Abraham to “see” the stars and the sand in order to get a vision for his future. How many times did Jesus tell His followers to “look” at the harvest fields in order to get a vision for the gospel? The power of vision – what we see – can absolutely influence the fulfillment of our purpose and destiny. The Bible tells us: “Where there is no vision (what you see), the people perish.” The Lord needs us to see what He sees for us, so that He can give it to us!
What do you see? Do you see yourself the way God does – in the light of His Word? Do you see your future as bright as the Lord does? Do you see your marriage, kids, job or calling the way God sees them? If you can see it…He will give it to you – eventually. If you can’t see it...you can’t have it.
I remember a season, nearly fifteen years ago, when I didn’t see myself in the same way that God did. When we built our first church building, it was a very challenging and draining season. One day, I noticed that I hadn’t laughed in months. My husband and I were overloaded with four little kids, a demanding teaching schedule, a growing church, the pressures of leadership and keeping up with the pace. I realized that I needed to get a new vision. I knew God’s will for my life was joy – in marriage, as a mom and in pastoring a growing church with Jeff. If I could see it by faith – I knew I could have it.
So, I did something crazy in order to “see” myself laughing again! At that time, the only husband/wife ministry team we knew – where both husband and wife taught the Word - were Aquila and Priscilla (from Acts 18) and Kenneth and Gloria Copeland (from Ft. Worth, Texas). Since I couldn’t find a photo of Aquila and Priscilla, I found a photo of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland teaching side-by-side. I cut their heads out of the photo and pasted a laughing version of my head and Jeff’s head onto the photo of their bodies! I carried that photo in my Bible for years and stared at it often.
Once I “saw” Jeff and me laughing, teaching the Word and enjoying ministry via this photo – and believed it and expected it – I started to experience it. The result? All the land that I could see, God has given to me! Jeff and I have had an absolute blast being married, raising kids and serving the Lord. I saw it and He gave it to me.
How about you? What are you “seeing” these days?
Say This: “Father, help me! What do You want me to see? Really see? Today, remind me of what Your Word has declared as Your will for my life. I ask You to help me find creative ways to “see” those things. I choose to “see” all the land that You want to give me. Thank You for helping me put some new images in my heart and mind…and in time, I believe You will give those to me. In Jesus Name. Amen.”
