Ask the Lord to show you how you can serve Him by serving others.
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:30–32 (nrsv)
Lord, I am troubled. I ache for this world, this time, this place. I’m not doing enough. I want to bear fruit for you. I see people needing jobs, homes, food, basic necessities—and what am I doing? Too little! But I’m not sure how to do more. I open myself to You and ask that You show me where I am needed most. Is my time best spent in prayer? In action? If it is in action, then help me to discern where my talents fit and where I can serve you best. A homeless shelter? A food shelf? Offering a listening ear? Visiting shut-ins? Put me where I need to be. I’m flailing around, wanting to help but hesitant to act. Make me bold in service of You! Help me to love people, no matter who they are, just because I know You love them too.
FAITH STEP: Make a list of places you might make a difference—a nursing home, with an ill friend, a project at church—then volunteer. If it is where God wants you, He will show you. If not, try something else. You will know when you find that place that needs you.
