We Still Believe
Romans 1:16 (NIV®)
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
When Paul wrote this to the church at Rome at the end of the first century, you can be assured it’s because they were being pressured to doubt or deny the gospel. Fast-forward to the 21st century, and that hasn’t changed. If you have the audacity to say you believe that Jesus was the Son of God, He was born of a virgin, He died on a cross and was raised to life again, He ascended to heaven, and He is coming back as the judge of all the earth, there are many who say, “You don’t really believe that, do you?” Absolutely, I believe it! And I smile when I realize that we face some of the challenges that the earliest Christ-followers faced.
Heavenly Father, thank You that Paul’s words from so many centuries ago are just as relevant to me today. Help me to live every day so that others will see that I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Help me to be bold in the face of opposition. Thank You for Your free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. In His name, amen.
