Matthew 7:15-20 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
I wish that people who deceived me, desires that swayed me, hopes that eluded me were all dressed in sheep’s clothing. Then I could see them in their wool outfits and say, “That’s a baaaad idea.” So we can’t really tell who a person is by what they look like on the outside, but by what they produce. We need to consider what are the outputs of the lives they have lived; who have they helped, what they have built.
We need to consider these things in other people, but first we need to consider these things in ourselves.
