Wanting What I Don’t Have

Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He's already given you.

My friend Susanne has a basket on her kitchen table filled with greenery, and there’s a bird in her back yard determined to get to it.
That bird spends day after day banging his beak against Susanne’s window trying to get in. She’s wondered why he hasn’t noticed the beautiful bushes behind him? Why is he so intent on getting what he can’t have, that he’s forgotten what he does have? I am just like that bird sometimes I want what I don’t have.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible to help me with contentment was written by Paul. Paul had been rich and he’d been poor.  He learned the secret to contentment by being thankful all the time. He said, “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything”. Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He’s already given you.  It sounds like such a good plan to me, now if that bird could just understand it.
