Various Parables

00:00

Description

Jesus uses the illustration in parables of seeing or of not seeing to reference spiritual things.

We have to be very careful about who we listen to and who we follow. Jesus used the illustration of seeing or of not seeing or being blind. He used it in reference to spiritual things. If one has sight, it is impossible not to see. If one is blind, it is impossible to see. It takes no special training to see or to be blind. So let us see what Jesus said in this parable.

39 And He also spoke a parable to them: 'A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit?' (Luke 6:39)

He said it is impossible for a blind person to act as a guide to another blind person. With this saying he referred to the Pharisees and their total misunderstanding of who Jesus was. They could not recognize the face of God in the person of Jesus so how could they give spiritual guidance to anyone. As Christians we have to be thrilled over one very simple skill, we can see. We can see God in the face of Jesus Christ. What a blessing it is not to be blind. We can rejoice in the gift of sight.
