Vacation Is a Good Time to Evaluate Your Career

Because you spend a lot of time at work, it’s important to be highly motivated. But what can you do if you're NOT?

Paul wrote in Colossians 3:23 - “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”

Are you working at your job with ALL your heart?  Because you spend a large part of your time at work, it’s important to be highly motivated on the job. If you’re miserable in your current job or if you’re looking for a new job, here are some tips to help you deal with job-related conflict and transition.

First, all of your skills, talents, and even your promotions come from God, so trust Him to be in charge of your career. “But it is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another” (Psalm 75:7 NIV).

Next, work as if God were your boss, because He is. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom” (Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV).

Third, honor your employer even if you don’t like or agree with him or her. Some of the greatest spiritual leaders in the Bible served corrupt, immoral masters.

If you don’t like your job, develop a strength-training program. Work conflict and transition will cause a lot of stress, so get into a program that includes exercise, eating right, and getting plenty of sleep and rest.

Never focus solely on the money. Focus on doing the task and being great at what you do, the money will follow if you are faithful, diligent and excellent.

Finally, work to increase your excellence and value by becoming a continual learner in your field.
