Upheld
Description
For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you. (Psalm 71:5-6 ESV)
Back in 1964, my mother was counseled to abort me. She had undergone major surgery, and was still very sick and weak. Her doctor felt that she could not survive a baby growing and pushing up against her internal stitches. Also complicating matters was her inability to draw nutrition to keep herself alive, never mind a growing fetus.
Walking home alone that day, my mother had peace that God held us both. She tucked the note from the doctor into her pocket and never confessed to anyone the advice she had been given.
Months later, weighing a mere ninety-seven pounds, she gave birth to a five and a half pound baby girl. We were both weak but alive.
My mom’s faith in God has seen me through many dark days. Although I’ve had my share of illness, I know Who holds me and I take rest in knowing that it is in Him – and only Him – that I can find any hope. No matter what your story is, He has held you since before you were born. I pray you find rest and peace in that.
Father, thank You that nothing is ever hidden from You, and that any hurts, sickness or diseases that come to us have been sifted through Your loving hands and that You uphold us. Help us to lean on You and to praise You through the ups and downs of our journey. For You and You alone are worthy of our praise! Amen
