This Should Settle Any Argument over Assurance of Salvation

Description

The accuser comes along to stir up any shred of doubt he can find. He does everything in his power to keep you from walking in the assurance you have in Christ.

Hear

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one (John 10:28-30).

Believe

This passage alone should settle any argument over our assurance of salvation. He gives us eternal life, and as a result, we will never perish. We are in His hands. Who can snatch us out? The apostle John makes the same case in his first letter.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.  I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know you have eternal life (1 John 5:11-13).

You can know you have eternal life. According to John, this isn’t a matter for debate. If you have the Son, you have eternal life. Do you have the Son? Then what do you have?

These are powerful passages. If you haven’t memorized them, I encourage you to do so. But here is the deal. Your memory can let you down or get drowned out by the many opposing voices in the world. And, as if that weren’t enough, the accuser comes along to stir up any shred of doubt he can find. He does everything in his power to keep you from walking in the assurance you have in Christ.

God knows all about Satan. That’s one reason God sent his Spirit to live inside you. Read what Paul wrote concerning the work of God’s Spirit in your life:

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children (Romans 8:15-16).

Live

Are you getting the idea that God wants you to know you are saved? It is so important to Him that he asked the Spirit to make this truth real in your heart. Your assurance is on the Spirit’s shoulders and He is up to the task. Your memory may fail you but God’s Spirit never will.
