The Value of Your Words

Description

Ask God to help you measure your words and the impact they have in the lives of others around you.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen (Ephesians 4:29).

THINK

Social media allows us to say anything and everything we want to say whenever we want to say it. Too often, though, we don’t often consider the impact of what we are communicating. But the truth is that, even in the social media world, how we say what we say is just as important as what we say.

With social media, tone of voice, voice inflection, and any number of other variables are removed. All that’s left is words on a screen. But those words have an influence on those who read them. There are real emotions that can be evoked, even if we don’t consider them when we type a message.

As you take a break from social media this week, think of ways to use your words to have a positive influence on people. Measure the value of your words, both this week and next as you get back into the social media world.

PRAY

Thank God for giving you the ability to communicate. Ask Him to help you measure your words and the impact they have in the lives of others around you.

ACT

Take a personal inventory of the words you communicate. Are you using words, phrases, and sentences that build others up? Because God has given you a voice. Make sure you use it to “benefit those who listen.”
