The Spirit Reveals God's Love
We would be blind to God’s awesome, unlimited, undeserved love if it weren’t for the witness of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals that God’s love was extended to us first, even when we were unworthy. The Holy Spirit also shows us that God does not require us to clean up our sinful lives before He will love us. Rather, God sent His Son to die on our behalf when we were still in full rebellion against Him (see Romans 5:6-8).
Many years ago the Holy Spirit revealed to me that I was being controlled by a life of sin. I was living under the horrors of spiritual slavery. The Holy Spirit said to me, "I can free you! Do you want to be freed?"
At first I was reluctant to turn from my old way of life. If I break free of this bondage, I reasoned, I might miss out on the good things that I can get from my slave master.
Here is what the Holy Spirit showed me: "Your slave master [Satan] tells you lies so that you will believe that he always will have you under his control." Then the Holy Spirit asked me, "Is that what you want?"
My answer was a resounding no!
Then God’s Spirit graciously said, "Let me introduce you to Jesus. He has already rendered Satan ineffective. Jesus loves you with immeasurable, incomprehensible, unconditional love. He died for you even when you preferred to hang out with your slave master, and now He invites you to experience all the riches that He has in store for you."
The Holy Spirit showed me through the eyes of faith what my future with this loving Savior would be like. He opened my eyes to the glories, joys, and blessedness of heaven. By this time I was crying out, "Save me from my slave master! Release me from my sin and guilt and bondage." And in Jesus’ great love, He did just that.
God’s love drives Him to seek us out. His love always motivates Him toward us with the purpose of forgiving us, restoring us, and showering His mercy and grace upon us. This is the healing and wholeness of God’s love toward us.
Have you truly experienced God’s love? Perhaps you have turned away from Him and forgotten the joy of His embrace. Reach out to Him today and open your heart to receive His overflowing, healing love.
Prayer: Lord, help me let go of my selfish agenda and open myself fully to Your love. Help me, Father, to trust in Your compelling love for me, that I myself may be compelled to love You and others. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness" (Isaiah 42:6-7).
