In order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. (2 Corinthians 2:11 NIV)
Scheme: A systematic plan of action; a secret or devious plan; a plot; To make plans, especially secret or devious ones.
Schemer: One who through wickedness plans a scheme to execute destruction.
Did you know the Devil is up to something? He wants to see you fail! Do not be unaware of his schemes! He is a liar from the beginning. He is the schemer of schemes!
Paul, in his second letter to the Corinthians, advises them to forgive someone who had betrayed them. He says to do this quickly, lest Satan try to "outwit" them, since he was not "unaware of his (Satan's) schemes". Paul seems to say that if you give the Devil a foothold, he will take it! Are you aware of that fact today?
A scholarly friend tells me the Greek word for scheme is "schema". It is where we get our word schematics. An appliance, for instance, is put together using a schematic drawing. It is an intricate, detailed plan of how the appliance works.
Satan has a schematic on your life! He wants to destroy your home. He wants to destroy your marriage. He wants to destroy your kids, and your relationship with them. He wants to keep you from reading God's Word. He wants to keep you out of church. He wants you to fail!
The good news is that Jesus is more powerful than the Devil! Far more powerful! If you are trusting in Jesus, the Bible says you can tell the Devil to flee you; to get out of your way! You must, however, be aware that he has a scheme. It is carefully laid out, planned and attempting to be implemented even as you read this. Stand firm! Do not let down your guard. Never give the Devil a foothold in your life! Consistently rid your life of sin; even of the smallest nature. Confess it, accept God's forgiveness, and strive each day to be more like Christ!
In Jesus you are stronger than the Devil, and you will win, just be prepared for the battle!
