Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Matthew 19:28 NIV)
I have read this verse many times, but something special jumped off the page at me this morning. Look at the phrase "renewal of all things"! I like that!
In Romans we read that all of creation "waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed". Creation, which was subjected to decay because of the sins of man, is ready to be released from bondage! Not that a tree has a soul, but if the ones in my yard, full of dead and rotten limbs could talk, it might say, "look what your sins did to me! I didn't want to rot and die!"
My puppy dog, if she could think and talk like a human (even though she thinks she can) might ask me "Why do dog years have to be 7 years of a human's life." I might ask the same thing, because I don't want to lose my little dog!
Creation is indeed subjected to decay and destruction, but guess what? Jesus confirms here that one day it will all be renewed! The trees will no longer rot and die! A dog's life will no longer be so short! All of God's beautiful creation will be renewed into eternal conditions, just as He created it to be originally in the garden!
Creation will rejoice because it will be free from desecration! We will rejoice because we will see creation in its full intent! Heaven will rejoice as Creation lives up to its expectations! God will rejoice as His Creation truly glorifies Him!
Oh what a day it will be when all things are renewed!
