The Red Badge of Courage
The privilege of suffering with Christ
Remember high school English? A book by Stephen Crane about a teenager in the Civil War. He bravely marches off to fight only to run away at the first sign of battle.
Do you remember what the red badge of courage is? It is the bloody stain on the uniform of a soldier who is wounded in battle.
Whenever you serve in leadership, you are out front. Whenever you are out front, you are likely to be targeted and shot. And hit. And wounded. Don't be surprised when you are wounded. It goes with the job of leading. Nobody knows that any better than Jesus, who shed His blood for you...
... being in agony,
He was praying fervently;
and His sweat became like drops of blood
falling down upon the ground. Luke 22:44
His blood, sweat and tears were for you. Now you have the privilege . . . your blood for Him. Wear your red badge . . . courageously.
