The Real Deal

People are looking for the real deal—for followers of Jesus who really follow Him. Are you the real deal?

“But you know yourselves that Timothy's the real thing.”Philippians 2:22, Message

What a compliment! To be called the “real thing.” These days, people are looking for people with the real deal. A follower of Jesus who really follows Jesus and His ways!

Who wants to be a phony, hypocritical, pretend Christian? I remember, some 30 years ago I became a Christian and I debated about my decision for nine months before I decided to fully surrender and invite Jesus into my life. The reason for the delay? I knew that once I made a decision to follow Jesus, I wanted to BE a Christian. I didn’t want to profess something and then not live a lifestyle that reflected that belief. I took some time to count the cost.

Andi led me to the Lord and she was the “real deal.” I saw in her life a real relationship with Jesus Christ, a real faith in God’s Word and real choices that reflected her walk with God. I decided I wanted the same thing. I haven’t been a perfect Christian, but my heart’s desire has been authenticity.

1 Samuel tells us that “Everyone in Israel, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south, recognized that Samuel was the real thing….” Does everyone in your family know you’re legit? Do the people in your school, church or work know you to be the genuine article? Are you a credit to Christianity or a liability?

People are watching and they wonder. Are you the real deal? Today, I hope you are encouraged to make the decision to be the real deal.

Say This: “Father, I don’t want to be a plastic, carnal Christian! I ask You to forgive me for discrediting You in any way. I want to be the real thing. I don’t want to be religious or churchy or fake…I want to be an authentic follower of Jesus. I ask You to help me live in a such a way that You are seen, honored and recognized. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
