The Radical Change In Our Standing Before God

Description

God offers reconciliation and an entirely new standing before Him as holy and blameless, without a single fault.

I was hopelessly lost before Jesus found me. In his letter to the Colossians, the Apostle Paul reminded the church of their former standing before God with three phrases.

You were once far away from God…
You were his enemies…
separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions.

– Colossians 1:21 NLT

This is the present state of anyone who continues to avoid and to reject Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Far away… enemies… separated…

But Paul poetically wrote a parallel verse explaining what happens for those who turn to Jesus and place their trust in Him.

Yet now he has reconciled you…
he has brought you into his own presence…
you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

– Colossians 1:22 NLT

Do you see what Paul did there? You once were far away, yet now he has reconciled you. You once were His enemies, yet he has brought you into his own presence. You were once separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions, yet now he declares you holy, blameless, and without fault. And on what basis did God accomplish all of this? Paul says, “by means of Christ’s blood on the cross… through the death of Christ in his physical body…” (Colossians 1:20, 22 NLT)

For any who will receive Him, God offers reconciliation, the pleasure of His presence, and an entirely new standing before Him as one holy and blameless, without a single fault.

I know my faults. I know my sins and my past. I know my present too, and all of my imperfections and flaws. But I also know that a gracious God, on the basis of the death His Son Jesus died for me, has declared me to be His and to be clean. That’s a miracle.

And you can have the same assurance. Want to be declared clean and accepted in the very presence of God forever? Come to Jesus. Trust Him alone.
