The Prisoners

When you find yourself filled with doubt and fear, remember that you are a work in progress and it's beautiful when the Master chisels.

It was a once in a lifetime opportunity! So, why was I stuck in a hallway?

On a trip to Italy, I had a chance to view Michelangelo’s most revered sculpture, “The David." After waiting in line for two hours and finally stepping inside the museum, I stopped captivated not by “The David," I hadn’t even seen him yet. What caught my eye was a collection of unfinished figures locked in stone aptly called, “The Prisoners."

As people pushed by, I stood and stared at one of the unfinished sculptures. Then I turned and looked at “The David," the statue chiseled to perfection by a master artist, and I whispered, “God, I don’t want to be incomplete locked in the hard places of bitterness, self-doubt, and fear.”

In that moment, I recognized it’s beautiful when the Master chisels.
