He is the perfect redeemer who takes care of us so we don't have to worry about providing for ourselves.
"WHO ARE YOU?" HE ASKED. "I AM YOUR SERVANT RUTH," SHE REPLIED. "SPREAD THE CORNER OF YOUR COVERING OVER ME, FOR YOU ARE MY FAMILY REDEEMER." — RUTH 3:9
Ruth was a woman of faith. After suffering the loss of her husband, she could have wallowed in grief and misery. Instead, she chose to follow her mother-in-law, Naomi, to a place where she knew no one, in order to honor her late husband (and, perhaps, the God he had introduced her to).
Ruth was also a woman of action. She worked hard to glean in the fields, toiling with intention and consistency. The owner of the fields, Boaz, noticed her work ethic and was impressed. Later, Ruth, followed Naomi's advice and found Boaz at night while he was sleeping. Because he was a relative of hers and a man of integrity, he agreed to spread his covering over her as her "family redeemer." This meant he promised to marry and take care of Ruth (and Naomi).
Ruth's story has much to teach us. Just as Ruth moved on from grief to action, we can ask for God's help to move past our own losses and not get stuck in bitterness or anger. With His help, we can honor others and not wallow in self-pity or destructive habits. Also, as His strength and forgiveness covers our weaknesses and failures, we can find peace and joy. He is the perfect redeemer who takes care of us so we don't have to worry about providing for ourselves.
My Rock and Redeemer, I praise and thank You for Your covering over me. You are a faithful provider. Amen.
