The People of God
1 Peter 2:10 (NIV®)
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Though we are scorned by many, Christ-followers are important. We are “the people of God.” We bring the truth of Almighty God to all humanity. We are fallible and inconsistent, yet He said we are salt and light. We struggle and stumble, yet we are at the center of God’s purposes. Be grateful for every person who bears the name of Jesus. We are not perfect, and we don’t always get it right. When you see a Christian stumble or fall, don’t mock or celebrate. Weep for them and extend a hand of mercy as God has extended a hand of mercy to you. Don’t join in when others diminish Christianity, ridicule Christ-followers, or give our faith as a reason for the weaknesses of our lives. In spite of our imperfections, we are the light of the world. Following Jesus is the very best way to live, and we should celebrate it.
Heavenly Father, I am so grateful that I belong to You, that I am one of Your own beloved children. Thank You for the mercy I have received from Your hand. May I be faithful in extending grace and mercy to others as You have extended it to me. May Your Church be expanded during this generation, Lord, that we would be found faithful upon Your return. In Jesus’ name, amen.
