The Pearl

00:00

Description

God distinguishes between the worthlessness of our sins and the value of our person. We are a pearl of great price to him.

Jesus was willing to use the language of commerce as part of a parable. He likened God's activity on Earth to be like that of a merchant who specialized in fine and precious pearls. This merchant obviously knew the value of a good Pearl.

45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls,

46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (Matthew 13:45-46)

When he found an extremely valuable pearl, he did not hesitate to sell all that he had to buy it. This illustrated the value that God the Father placed upon those who would trust in his Son. To God believers are worth his Son. We are worth a Son to God. As we all know worth is in the eyes of the beholder and the buyer, and God considers you extremely valuable. Many human beings and some Christians believe that they are genuinely worthless. They are mistaken. God distinguishes between the worthlessness of our sins and the value of our person. We are a pearl of great price to him.
