The One in 100,000
“I know God pursues the lost, because he pursued me.”
Is there someone you are fervently praying for? Someone you hope will meet Jesus soon? Maybe all you have is a bleak hope because it seems impossible.
It could be your dentist or doctor. The waiter at your favorite restaurant. Your next door neighbor. Your childhood friend. Your teenage daughter. Your co-worker.
At the top of my prayer list is my brother: The same brother who I’ve been inviting to church for years. He will visit church once in awhile and enjoy the message. My brother doesn’t really engage in having “spiritual” conversations with me. Sometimes it is easier to believe that a church will reach 100,000 than it is to believe that one person like my brother will meet Jesus.
My brother’s friends are starting to become some of those 100,000. His friends have much greater influence over his life than I do. I’ve come to realize that the more people we reach for Jesus, the greater chance my brother has of seeing his life change and hearing about Jesus from those in his circle of influence.
The reality is that I may not be the one who gets my brother to church the Sunday he raises his hand and walks forward. I may not even be there to see him go public for Jesus in baptism. It may be the co-worker who is now inviting him to church that’s sitting next to him. It may be his good friend who leads him in a prayer. It may be someone who doesn’t even know Jesus yet who cheers for him as he gets baptized. And even though I may not be there, I am confident that it will happen.
God Works Good at the Right Time
I can’t wait for the day I get to rejoice in the salvation of my brother. I believe it will happen! I know God pursues the lost, because he pursued me. I believe in the power of the gospel (1 Thessalonians 1:5). I believe that Jesus is building His church and nothing can stop Him (Matthew 16:18). We will reach 100,000.
And, while I care that many come to know Jesus, I really care that my brother comes to know Jesus—it’s personal. I also know that I have to believe in God’s goodness and God’s time. Jesus is able to save my brother; Jesus is able to save that person on your list that seems unreachable and distant. Jesus will move in their life at the right time.
The day will come when my brother’s life is changed by Jesus because the more we share the gospel; the greater the circle of influence there will be around our state and the greater chance there is that my brother will be one of 100,000.
Keep praying! Keep telling! Keep inviting! My brother may be the one who responds to your invitation.
