The New Father

Description

To enjoy the experience of discipleship, we must get to know the Father really well.

Discipleship is an experience with God as our Father while we bask in our identity with Christ and enjoy the companionship of the Holy Spirit. To enjoy the experience of discipleship, we must get to know the Father really well. John 17:3 says, "This is eternal life, that they may personally know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."

There are four great experiences that make the Christian life an emotionally rich relationship with God. The first experience is having a sense, an emotional and instinctive one, that God is our Abba Father, our dad. The word for "know" in 17:3 means to personally know relationally. The word "know" means that we have a sense of His emotions towards us and we feel those emotions. Further, we have a transparent relationship with Him. He has shared everything with us so we should share everything with Him. In this sense of "know," there are no secrets between God and us, but all is open.

The relationship to the Father and Son is eternal life. Eternal life is a quality of life lived in a vibrant relationship with God the Father.
